The one where a cardigan broke my heart

DISCLOSURE: This post is sponsored by Stitch Fix. All opinions are my own.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more and more disenchanted with the idea of driving to the mall and shopping. Don’t get me wrong – finding new clothes I love is the best, but have you DEALT with mall parking? It is literally the worst. Literally.

Enter: Stitch Fix. Stitch Fix is a styling service that uses your personal style and budget to match you with five pieces at a time that you’re sure to love. It’s easy, it’s fun, and it even lets you try on new clothes with clothing and accessories you already own. Bonus: no mall parking to deal with.

Last week, I got to try my very first Stitch Fix, which resulted in a cardigan breaking my heart. Yes, really.

You see, my stylist sent me five amazing pieces. Two incredible tops, a dress, jeggings, and a cardigan. The problem is that I’m trying really hard to be financially fit (learn more about creative ways I make money here), and I had already decided before receiving my Fix that I would only be purchasing one item.

And the first thing I tried on were these amazing (AMAZING) jeggings. Jean leggings. Except they’re real denim, and they fit my hard-earned lifting legs and booty perfectly. They’re a darker wash, and will go perfectly with so many tops I already own, so, I had to keep the jeans.

But then there was the cardigan. Big, chunky, soft, and cozy. Incredibly luxurious feeling for a steal of a price point – $88. A cowl neck with a snap front that was to die for. It would have been so perfect to keep for the fall and winter, and would have been incredible in my cold classroom.

But alas, I’m being budget conscious, and I had to ship that gorgeous cardigan back. My loss could be your gain, though, when you schedule your first fix. It’s just $20 for the styling fee, which you can apply directly to any item you purchase.

Here’s the skinny on how Stitch Fix works:

Step one: Create your style profile on Stitch Fix’ website. You’ll be asked a series of questions about your wardrobe wants and needs, your budget, and your style. It’s fun and easy to take! Be sure to be honest about your budget – if it comes in your box, you’re going to want to try it on, and trust me, you don’t want to fall in love with an adorable cardigan that’s out of your price range.

Step two: Wait patiently for your Fix to make its way to your door. Your personal stylist will draw inspiration from your style quiz and social media accounts (if you’ve connected them) to pick out five pieces you’ll love. I loved that my stylist noticed that I was an Orioles fan on my Pinterest board and included the most adorable orange and gold top. Your Fix costs $20 for a styling fee, which is applied to your clothing purchase when you choose to keep one or more piece from your Fix.

Step three: It’s like Christmas! Your Fix will arrive, nicely packaged, and ready for you to try on. Your stylist sends a note, outfit inspiration, a price list, and your five pieces, wrapped nicely in tissue paper.

Step four: Your bedroom becomes a dressing room. Once your Fix arrives, you have three business days to try on all five pieces and decide which you love and which you just like (because trust me, they’re all good). And here is my most favorite thing about Stitch Fix, the thing that truly sets it apart from simply buying your clothes at the mall: you can try on your new pieces with favorites from your own closet. There’s no guesswork about whether that top is going to look amazing with your favorite pants or if your shoes go with that new dress.

Step five: Decide which pieces to keep. As mentioned, you have three business days to try your pieces. Once you’ve chosen, you head to your Stitch Fix profile online and update it with feedback on fit, style, and price for each piece. It’s easy to check out, and you’ll only be charged for the pieces you choose to keep (minus your 20% styling fee). Stitch Fix sends a prepaid Priority envelope so that whichever pieces you send back have a one way ticket back to their warehouse. Simply package, seal, and send via USPS. Bonus: If you choose to keep all five pieces, you get a 25% discount!

The coolest race I’ll ever run (plus check out my sweet headphones!)

On June 1st, I’ll be running in one of the coolest races I’ve had the opportunity to run in. There’s no winner, no medals, and there won’t even be bananas at the finish line.

It’s gotta be good if I’m running without free bananas.

I was offered the opportunity to run a leg of the United Relay, which is a three-leg coast-to-coast relay race. It kicked off in Seattle, Los Angeles, and San Francisco in late April, and all three legs will conclude in New York City in June.

There are a few things that are awesome about the United Relay:

It’s the very first of it’s kind! This is the very first three-leg continental relay. That means if you run, you’ll be part of history! It’s totally continuous, which means that runners and cyclists are going 24 hours a day to get the baton to NYC.

It benefits some awesome charities. One of the most unique things about the United Relay is that you get to choose who you’re running for. I’ve signed up to run for Girl Rising, which helps to provide educational opportunities for girls around the world. You can see the full list of charities here.

They’ve partnered with AfterShokz, and participants get a sweet deal! Okay. If you’ve never heard of AfterShokz, you’re seriously missing out. Their new Trekz Titanium headphones are a must have for runners, especially if you run at night or in a busy city. I’ve been test driving these babies for the last few weeks as I prepare for the United Relay, and they’re the best headphones I’ve used. They’re lightweight and comfortable, and super safe because they don’t fit into your ears. Instead, they use bone conduction technology, giving you amazing sound quality while still allowing you to hear the noise around you. This makes them super safe, on top of being sleek and high performing. Get yourself a pair for 20% off using the code SWEATPINK.

It’s bound to be a sweaty good time. Guys. The relay goes through Virginia, DC, and Maryland May 31-June 2nd, and I’m running Stage 331 through Columbia, MD at 8:40PM on June 1st. Want to join me or run a different leg? Register using this link and save 30%!

I’m looking forward to running with some of you soon!

This post was sponsored by United Relay and Aftershokz through my position as a Sweat Pink Ambassador. I was provided the opportunity to run the United Relay and a pair of Trekz Titanium headphones complimentary, but all opinions are my own.

Things I Love Tuesday (Thursday Edition)

You guys, teaching has totally thrown off my blog writing flow. Don’t get me wrong — I LOVE it, and it is absolutely the right career path for me. But teaching is a full time job and then some, and I’m taking my time getting my bearings and figuring it out, and so my blogging has taken a back seat. Not to worry – I plan on getting back on track this weekend – but that’s why this week’s TILT is getting posted today.

Earlier this month, I was approached about trying out a website called ePantry as part of their VIP Influencer program. I, of course, said yes, and proceeded to their website to build my very first shipment.image1

The Skinny: is a simple and affordable way to have a variety of household cleaning and personal care products — you know, the ones you’d have in your pantry — shipped directly to you. Their mission is to make the best household products the easiest to get. Translation: by using their service, you’ll feel good about your purchases and your wallet will love you, too.

How it Works: You build either a one-time or recurring shipment of products that you’ll love. Most of the products they carry are marked down over 25% of retail! Even if you order a one-time shipment, your ePantry account will keep track of when you order and notify you when it might be time to order more — this means that you’ll never run out of products again. Once your cart is ready to go, you order and they’ll ship your products directly to your door.

What I loved: I loved pretty much everything about my ePantry experience. Their website is easy to navigate, the variety of products is awesome, and the items they suggested for me to try are now some of my favorites (like this candle). I loved how well my package was packed, and that they individually taped every bottle shut to ensure I didn’t receive a sticky, soapy mess.

Why the VIP experience is extra awesome: As part of the Influencer program, I received my VIP membership complimentary, but I would definitely pay for it. VIP members receive free shipping (which is a big deal when you’re shipping heavy things like detergent) and five full size free gifts each year. Bonus, it’s only $39.99 each year. This means it pays for itself in free gifts alone. You can sign up for the VIP program here.

Want to try? ePantry has generously offered my readers $10 off their first purchase. You just need to click the link here

If you’re a blogger or social media superstar who wants to share ePantry with your followers, shoot me an email and I can connect you!

To Do This Weekend: Charleston Distillery Tour

This past weekend, Paul and I had the awesome opportunity to experience the newest tour offered by Charleston Culinary Tours, the Charleston Distillery Tour.

The 3.5 hour long tour is $50 per person and includes tours of three local micro distilleries, tastings at each, and a cocktail made with one of the liquors by local mixologists. It also includes transportation, snacks, water, and a lot of insight from Charleston Culinary Tour tour guides. Continue reading
